শ্রেষ্ঠ ভালবাসা

বৈশাখের দুপুরে, মাঠের কাজ সেরে বাড়ির পশ্চিম পাশে থাকা বড় আম গাছের ছায়ায় খড় বিছিয়ে বসে আছে রাজীব। তাকে খুব ক্লান্ত দেখে তার ছোট ভাই এক ঘটি জল নিয়ে তার দিকে ছুটে এল। হাতে ঘটিটা দেখে একটা দীর্ঘ নিঃশ্বাস ফেলে, নিজের হাতে তুলে গড় গড় করে গলায় পানি ঢালতে লাগল। একটানে ঘটি খালি করে দিল। তার মেয়ে সুজেতাকে ডেকে বলল তালপাতার পাখাটা নিয়ে আসতে এবং জেঠ্যুকে বাতাস করতে। যে দক্ষিণা বাতাসে গাছের পাতা নড়তে চায় না আর সেই বাতাসে এই রকম ক্লান্তির তো সাড়াই দিবে না। রজনীর একমাত্র মেয়ে সুজেতাই বাড়ির বড় মেয়ে। সে লক্ষী মেয়ের মত যে কাজ করতে বলে বিনা প্রতিবাদে সকল কাজ সুন্দরভাবে গুছিয়ে করে চোখের পলকে। আর এখন জ্যেডাবাবুকে বাতাস করে শীতল করার জন্য চলে এসেছে আলোর গতিতে। সুজেতার গায়ের হাওয়ায় জেডাবাবুর সকল ক্লান্তি দূরে চলে যায়। তাও জ্যেডার একটু সুখের জন্য সে আর কিছুক্ষণ তালপাতার শীতল বাতাস প্রবাহিত করতে লাগল।
ঐ দিকে রান্না ঘরে দুই জা একে অপরকে সাহায্য করছে রান্নার কাজে। বড় জা রান্না করতাছে আর ছোট জা তাকে টুকটাক ছোট কাজ গুলো- মশলা বাটা, জল আনা, কাচা শাক-সবজি ধুয়ে দিয়ে সাহায্য করছে। এছাড়া, নিজেরা নানা কথায় নিজদের কাজের গতি বাড়িয়ে নিল। ছোট জা বলল-
-দিদি, আমার মেয়েটা দিন দিন বড় হচ্ছে। আর তার জন্য নানা দিক থেকে সমন্ধ আসছে। কি করা যায়?
- কথাটা ঠিকই বলছস, একটু ভেবে দেখতে হবে। -দিদি, ওই দিন থেকে সুজেতা আর স্কুল যায় না। ঐ পাড়ার দুষ্ট ছেলেরা তাকে শুধু বিরক্ত করে।
- তুই এত চিন্তা করিস না। তুর দাদার সাথে ছেলেগুলোর ব্যাপারে বললে কেমন হয়?
-না বলার দরকার নাই। তাহলে মেয়েটার উপর কোন রকমের দোষ আসাতে পারে। তাছাড়া, দাদা যদি বকাটে ছেলেদের কিছু বলে তাহলে বলিস?
- আমি চাই, মানসম্মান মত মেয়েটার একটা ভিত করতে..
- কি কছ? তুই কি চাস মেয়েটার বিয়ে দিতে?
- দাদার সাথে আলাপ করে দেখো দাদা কি বলে? আর দাদাকে বলবে যে আমি মেয়েটার বিয়ে দিতে চায়। তবে কারণটা বলবে না, দিদি।
-তুর দাদাকে বুঝিয়ে বললে হয়ে যাবে। তা ও দেখি ওনি কি বলে। তাদের কথা বার্তা চলতে লাগল আর দুপুরের মধ্যেই তাদের রান্না শেষ হয়ে গেল। রান্না করা খাবার গুলো পরিবেশনের উপযোগী করে খাওযার ঘরে নিয়ে গেল। সবাইকে ডাকাডাকি, যেন সারা বাড়িতে ছুটির ঘন্টা বাজাতে লাগল। সবাই যার যার কাজ থেকে বের হয়ে কেউ স্নান করে আবার স্নান না করেই খাবার খেতে চলে আসল। রাজিবের বড় ছেলে রবি আর ছোট ছেলে অভি ই ছিল না খাবার খাওয়ার জন্য। অভি শহরে লেখাপড়া করে আর রবি নিজেদের গ্রামের কলেজে। তাদের ছোট বোন রিনা আর সুঝেতার ছোট ভাই সুজন একই ক্লাসে পড়ে। তারা দুজনেই বেশ দুষ্ট, ওরা দুজনেই পঞ্চম শেণীতে পড়ে ওদের দেখলে তা মনে হয় না। মনে হয় ওরা যেন এখনও প্লে পড়ুয়া ছেলে মেয়ে। ওরা স্কুল থেকে এসে এক সাথে খেতে বসছে, মাছের মাথা কে খাবে তা নিয়ে বেশ ঝামেলা বাধিয়া ফেলল। এমন সময় রবি তার উচ্চ মাধ্যমিক পরিক্ষার ব্যবহারিক পরিক্ষা দিয়ে বাড়ি ফিরল। এই রকম ঝামেলা দেখে রবি তার মাকে বলল, তার জন্য রাখা মাছের মাথাটা ওদের দুজনের একজনকে দিয়ে দিতে। মা তাই করল। দুজনেই দুইটা দিয়ে মজা করে খাবার খেতে লাগল। তারা দুজনেই খাবার খেয়ে চলে গেল দিদিমণির বাড়িতে পড়ার জন্য। এই দিকে রবি স্নান করে পরিপাটি বেশে খেতে আসল। এমন সময় কোমল স্বরে মা বলে,
- বাবা, তোমার আর কয়টা পরিক্ষার বাকি আছে? পরিক্ষা দেওয়া কবে শেষ হবে?
- মা, পরশুই শেষ হয়ে যাবে। ওরা খাবার খাইয়া প্রাইভেটে গেছে নি?
- হুম, গেছে। এভাবে নিজের ইচ্ছা গুলো কেন জলাঞ্জলি দাও? বলছিল না তোমার বাবা? শহরে গিয়ে পড়তে! যাও নি। আর এখন গ্রামে থেকে বাবা-কাকার সাথে খাট আর....
- মা, অভি দ্বীতিয় বর্ষে ভর্তির জন্য হাজার বিশেক টাকা লাগবে। আমাকে ফোনে বলছে। কথাটা বাবাকে বলে দিও।
এই বলে রবি তার খাবার খাওয়া শেষ করে চলে গেল মাঠে তার বাবা - কাকাকে সাহায্য করার জন্য। মাঠে ধানের ধানি পড়ছে। গ্রামের সবারই ব্যস্ততা লেগে আছে। কেউ কেউ তাদের ক্ষেত কাটা শেষ করে ধান সিদ্ধ আরম্ভ করে দিয়েছে। মাথার উপরে রোদ্দুর চওড়া হয়ে দাড়িয়ে আছে। রবি মাঠে যেতে না যেতেই ঘেমে গেল। তার সুন্দর কোমল চেহরা রোদের উত্তাপে বেশ লাল হয়ে গেছে। কাজের ফাকে ফাকে বাবা ও কাকা রবিকে দু'চারটা কথা জিঙ্গাসা করলে ঠিকঠাক উত্তর দেয়। তাদেরকে সে মুখ খুলে কিছু বলে নাই। সন্ধা হওয়ায় ধান কাটা বন্ধ করে দিয়েছে এবং যা কাটা হয়েছে তা দ্রুততর বাড়িতে নিয়ে আসছে। ধান-বানের কাজ শেষ করে রাতের খাবার খেয়ে যার যার বিছানায় চলে যায়।
বিছানার দুইপাশে দুজনের মাঝে রিনা শুয়ে আছে। এমন সময় রিনার মা বলে,
- রিনার বাপ, তুমারে একটা কথা বলার ছিল।
- কি বলবা? রবির ব্যাপারে কিছু...
- রবির সমন্ধে কি বলমু? ওরে নিয়ে বললে সারাদিনই বলা যাবে। তবে তোমার ছোট ছেলেটার কিছু টাকা লাগবে। ভর্তি হওয়ার জন্য।
- কত লাগবে?
- হাজার বিশেক লাগবে বলেছে। অভি রবিকে ফোনে বলেছে।
- এত টাকা! রবিটার কি হবে? ওর ও যে মেডিকেলে পড়ার খুব ইচ্ছা। পরিক্ষার পর তাকে কোচিং করতে হবে। তখনও অনেক টাকা লাগবে। - রবিই বলছে তোমার কাছে বলতে টাকা দেওয়ার জন্য। ছেলেটা তোমরই মত হয়েছে। নিজের জন্য কিছু চায় না। সবাইকে নিয়ে সুখে থাকাই ছেলেটার সকল প্রয়াস। এসব কথা বলাবলির পর সবাই চুপচাপ। রবি তার জীবনে যে বয়সটুকু অর্জন করেছে এই বয়সে কেউ এত ত্যাগ গ্রহণ করে নি। তাদের কথা শোনতে শোনতে রিনা ঘুমিয়ে পড়েছে। একটু জোড়ে দক্ষিণা বাতাস বইছে ফলে পরিবেশ বেশ ঠান্ডাই লাগছে। এমন সময় ঝোপ-ঝাড়ে থাকা পোকা মাকড়ের শব্দের সাথে বাতাসে শু শু শব্দটা ছাড়া আর কিছুই শোনা যাচ্ছে না। হয়তো রিনার বাবার চোখে ঘুম এসে পড়েছিল। এমন সময় রিনার মা একটু জোড়ে শব্দ করে ডাকল-
- ও, রিনার বাপ শুনছ। তোমারে আরেকটা কথা বলার ছিল।
তিনি আধ ঘুমের ঘরে চলে গেছে। পরিশ্রমী দেহ, একটু আরামে থাকায় আধ ঘুমো হয়ে গেছে।
- ও রিনার বাপ....
- কি গো, কিছু বলবা নাকি?
- ঘুমিয়ে গেছো নাকি? একটা কথা বলতাম।
- কি বলবা বল?
- আজ সকালে ভবিতা আমাকে একটা কথা বলছে। ভবিতা চায় সে তার মেয়েটার বিয়ে দিয়ে দিতে।
- কেন? একি কথা! সুজেতা সবে মাত্র নবম শ্রেণীতে উঠছে। তুমি রবিকে কথাটা বলছ? আর ভবিতার মনে এরকম ভাবনা কেনই বা আসল?
- রবিকে বলা হয় নাই। ভবিতার সাথে কথা বলে নিও।
তারা কথা শেষ করে ঘুমিয়ে পড়ে। রাতে মাঝা-মাঝি সময়ে শিয়ালের হাকাহাকি ছাড়া আর কিছুই শোনা গেল না। তবে টিনের চালের উপর পাকা পাকা আম পড়ার শব্দ ও শোনা যাচ্ছিল। মাঝে মাঝে বেশ জোড়ে শু শু শব্দ শোনা যাচ্ছিল।
ভোর হলে বাড়ির গৃহিণীরা ঘুম থেকে উঠে যার যার কাজ করে। ভোরে পাখির ডাকে তাদের ঘুম ভাঙ্গে। সুয্য মামা জেগে উঠলেই গ্রামের সবার সাথে ওদের ও কাজ করার জো আরম্ভ হয়। এভাবেই তারা দিন-রাত যাপন করতে থাকে।
মাঠে যাওয়ার পূর্বে ভবিতা থেকে রাজিব সুজেতাকে বিয়ে দেওয়ার কারণটা জেনে বেশ ক্ষুব্দ হয়। তারপর গিয়ে ছেলে গুলোকে কয়েকটা ধমক দিয়ে নানা কথা শোনায়। এতে কয়েকজন প্রতিবেশী মোটামুটি ভিড় জমিয়ে ফেলে। ফলে বেশি কথা না বাড়িয়ে রাজিব সেখান থেকে সরে পড়ে। প্রতিবেশীদের মধ্যে কানু ছিল যে সর্বদা অন্যের কুৎসা লুটিয়ে বেড়ায়। এই বাড়ির কুৎসা লটাবে এমন কোন দিকই এর আগে কানুর জানা ছিল না। কানু নিজ চোখে, নিজ কানে এই রকম একটা ঘটনা জানতে পেরে পুলকিত হৃদয়ে এখান থেকে চলে যায়। রবির সব পরিক্ষা শেষ দুই দিন হয়ে গেছে। এই দিকে মাঠের কাজ ও শেষ। রবিদের একটা ক্ষেতের ধান সিদ্ধ করতে বাকি মাত্র। এই সময়ে অভি আরও দুইবার ফোন করেছে টাকা দেওয়ার জন্য। এবার রবি নিজেই বাবাকে বললে বাবা টাকার জোগাড় করার জন্য কিছু ধান বিক্রি করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন। তাতে রবিও একমত। রজনীও এক মত। যে নতুন ধান গুলো রোদে শুকানো হয়েছে তার থেকে পনের মণ ধান বিক্রি করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়। মণে সাতশ করে। সিদ্ধান্ত অনুযায়ী ধান ব্যাপারী খালেক মিয়াকে ডাকা হয়। ধান মাপছে প্রতি দাড়িতে পাঁচ পাড়ি করে। খালেক মিয়া নিঃশাসে-প্রশ্বাসের সময়টিকুতেও মুখ দিয়ে দাড়ির হিসাব ঠিক। রাখল। দশ দাড়ি হলে দু'চারটা কথা বলে অভির লেখাপড়া নিয়ে। বেশ প্রশংসার কথাই বলে। কিন্তু বিশ দাড়ির বেলায় থেমে সুজেতাকে নিয়ে কিছু বাজে কথা বলতে লাগল। শেষের দিকে বলতে লাগল,
- অ রাজিব দা, আপনার ভ্রাতৃঝির বিয়ে কবে দিবেন? নইলে যে আপনার বাড়ির মুখ যাবে।
- কি বলাতেছেন বকরবকর করে। ভাল করে কথা বলেন।
- এই সব কথা শোনতে বুঝি ভাল লাগে না। যখন মুখ যাবে তখন বুঝবে!
- কি? আপনি কাকে কি বলছেন?
- আরে তোমাদের। ঐ দিন কানু চাস্টলে বসে মেয়েটারে নিয়ে কি যে কি কি বলল। কানু বলে মেয়েটার নাকি কারু সাথে খাতির আছে। যার দরুণ আপনি বকাঝকা করছেন। আ...
- সাবধান। প্যাচ প্যাচ বন্ধ করুন। আমাদের মেয়ে শীতার মত পবিত্রা।
- আমি না হয় থামলাম। তবে গ্রামের লোকদের মুখ কি করে থামাবেন। গ্রাম গ্রামান্তর না হতে হতে মেয়েটার বিয়ে দিয়ে দেন। ভাল একটা কাজের কাজ হবে। পাশে দাড়িয়ে রবি কথা গুলো শোনছিল। তাও কিছু বলতে পারে নি কেননা লোক মুখে সে এসব কথা প্রায়ই শোনেছে।খালেক ব্যাপারী তার কথা শেষ করে পনের মণ ধানের দাম দিয়ে, ধান নিয়ে বিদায় হল। ধান বেচার টাকাটা রাজিব রবিকে দিয়ে বলে টাকাটা অভিকে মোবাইল ব্যাংকিং করতে। রবি টাকা নিয়ে নিকটবর্তী একটা দোকানে চলে যায়। আর এই দিকে বিষণ্ন মনে রাজিব আর রজনী দুই ভাই নানা কথা বলে। রাজিব বলে,
- কইরে, রজনী। এখন কি করি?
- দাদা, আপনার যা ইচ্ছা করেন। আপনার সব মতামতই আমার মতামত। একটা কথা, আমার মেয়ের জন্য এই বাড়ির তথা আপনার দুর্নাম হবে আমি তা চাই না।
- তুই ও কি বলতে চাস মেয়েটার বিয়ে দিতে?
- হ দাদা। সবাই যখন এত কান ঘষাঘষি করতাছে তখন মেয়েটার বিয়ে দেওয়াটায় ভাল হবে। নইলে যে চারিদিকে মেয়েটা সতীত্বের সমালোচনা হবে।
- মেয়েটা খুব কষ্ট পাবে।
- এত কিছু ভাইবেন না। আজ্ঞা দেন।
- ঠিক আছে। ঐ পাড়ার রতন কে বলে দিস। পাত্র বের করতে। সে তীব্র ভালোই মুক্তারি করতে পারে।
মেয়েটার বিয়ের কথা উঠতে দেরি হয়েছে তবে চারিদিক দিক থেকে পাত্র আসার দেরি হয় নাই। দু'চার দিনের মধ্যে প্রায় পাচ-ছয়টা সমন্ধ এসেছে। তার মধ্যে একটি বিদেশী সমন্ধও আসছে। সিঙ্গাপুর থাকে। ছুটিতে এসেছে বিয়ে করার জন্য। ছেলে দেখতে যেমন তেমন বিদেশী হওয়ায় বিয়ে ঠিক করে ফেলল। তাও আবার মোটা অংকের যৌতুকে। কনে বরকে আড়াই ভরি গহনা সহ দুই লক্ষ ত্রিশ হাজার টাকা নগদ দিবে। কিছুদিনের মধ্যে বিয়ের তারিখ ও ঠিক হয়ে যায়। মেয়েটা বিয়ের কথা শোনা খাবার-দাবার ছেড়েই দিয়েছে। গায়ে হলুদের দিন মেয়েটার দিকে তাকিয়ে বোঝা যাচ্ছিল, তার আর আগের মত মুখে হাসি নাই। যে খিল খিল হাসিতে দুঃখ কষ্ট সব একাকার করে পরিবারে সবার সাথে কাজ করছে। শুধু হাসি নয়, চাদের আলোর মত ফর্সা গায়ের বর্ণ শ্যাম হয়ে গেছে। যদি আগের বর্ণে হলুদ মাখত তাহলে তার রূপে অন্ধকারে আলো ছড়াতো। দেহ-মুখ ও কেমন জানি শুকনো হয়ে গেছে। শুষ্ক কন্ঠে তার রবি দাদাকে কাছে ডেকে আনল। মধুর কন্ঠ হারিয়ে ভঙ্গ কন্ঠে বলে,
- বড়দা, ছোটদা আসবে না?
- না রে আসবে না। ওর নাকি পরিক্ষা আছে।
- ছোটদা সবে মাত্র একবারই আসল। বলে দেখ না।
- মা, কাকা, আমি ও বলছি। ওর নাকি বেশ দরকারি পরিক্ষা না দিলে না ই হবে।
- দাদা; তোমার তো আর কোচিং করা হল না। কয়েকমাস পরেই যে তোমার ভর্তি পরিক্ষা।
- পাগলি। আমার জন্যে কেন ভাবছিস? তুরা ছোটরা যদি সুখে থাকিস তাহলেই যে আমাদের সুখ।
কথাটা শোনে সুজেতার চোখ দিয়ে গড় গড় করে পানি নেমে পড়ে। রবিকে জড়িয়ে ধরে। রবির চোখে ও পানি। কান্নাময় গলায় রবি বলে,
- বোকা মেয়ে। কান্না করিছ না। তুই কাদলে যে আমি সইতে পারি না। আমি তুর পাশে আছি, কোন কষ্ট হতে দিব না।
- তুমি সারা সংসার নিয়ে ভাব। কিন্তু তোমার কি হবে সেটা নিয়ে একবার ও ভাব না। অনেক দিনই তুমি কলেজের পড়া পড়তে গিয়ে খাবারের সময় পেতে না। আর তখন আমাকে ডেকে বলতে খাবারটা খেয়ে নিতাম...
- আরে কাদছিস কেন? কলেজের ড্রেস পড়তে পড়তে যেমন করে তুর হাতে খেয়ে নিতাম তেমনি তুর শুড় বাড়িতেও খেয়ে নেব, বাড়ি ফেরার পোশাক পড়তে পড়তে।
এই রকম কিছু কথা বলে হাসির চেষ্টা করল। কেউর মুখেই হাসি নাই। অতিথি যারা আসছে তারা বেশ হাসা হাসি খেলা খেলি করেছে।
পরদিন মেয়েটার বিয়ে হয়ে যায়। যখন তাকে নিয়ে যাচ্ছিল তখন সে কাদতে কাদতে অজ্ঞান হয়ে পড়ছিল। এই অবস্থায় তাকে তার স্বামীর বাড়ি নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। স্বামীর বাড়িতে বেশ প্রথম মাসটা ভালই কাটল। পরে যখন তার স্বামী বিদেশে অবৈধ কোন কাজে ধরা পড়ে বাড়ি ফিরে তখন থেকেই তার দুর্দশা শুরু হয়। শাশ্বড়ী তাকে ভারী ভারী কাজ চাপিয়ে দেয়। তাছাড়া তাদের সবাই চায় তাদের সংসারে বংশধর আসুক। শুধু সুজেতাই না করে। এতে শাশ্বড়ী-ননদীর হাতে অত্যাচারিত হতে হয়। এমনকি তার স্বামী ও তাকে অত্যার করে। তবে জেনে শোনে নয়। সে বউকে খুব ভালবাসে তবে মাঝে মাঝে মদ,গাজার নেশার ঘুরে হয়তো করছে। দু'কটা কথা সুজেতার বাপের বাড়ি আসে। এতে রাজিব অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়ে। তার ব্রেন স্ট্রোক হয়। তবে এবারের মত বেচে যায়। রাজিবের ছিল চারিদিকের চিন্তা চেতনা, হয়তো যার দরুণ এমন হয়েছিল। রাজিব মোটামুটি সুস্থ হলে সুজেতাকে দেখতে চায়। রবিকে পাঠায় সুজেতাকে আনার জন্য। রবি সুজেতার শ্বশুড় বাড়িতে পা দিতে না দিতেই দেখে তার শ্বাশুড়ি তাকে ঝাড়ু দিয়ে পিটাছে। এতে শান্ত রবি ক্ষুব্দ হয়ে ঝাড়ুটা হাত থেকে হিছড়ে টান দিয়ে এনে ছুড়ে ফেলে দেয়। আর তাকে বকাঝকা দিতে থাকে। রবি, সুজেতাকে কাপড় চোপড় গুছিয়ে রওনা দিতে বলে। সে এই বাড়িতে এক গ্লাস জল ও পান করবে না যত দিন না তার বোন সুখে থাকে। রবি তাকে গুছাতে বললে বলে,
- বড়দা, তুমি চলে যাও। আমি সুখেই আছি।
- হুম তুই যে সুখে আছত আমি দেখতাছি। যা গিয়ে রওনা হ।
- না, আমি ওনারে ফেলে যাব না। ওনি আমার সাথে গেলেই আমি যাব।
- ওনি এখন কোথায়?
- ঘরে।
- কি করে?
- বসে আছে।
রবি বসে আছে শোনে ঝংকার দিয়ে ডাকতে লাগল। তখন সুজেতা রবিকে সাবধান করে এবং বলল ভাল করে ব্যবহার করতে। রবি তার কথায় কর্ণপাতই করল না। রবির চেঁচামিচিতে তার স্বামী ঘর হতে বের হয়ে আসে।
রবি, সুজেতা আর তার স্বামীকে নিয়ে বাড়িতে চলে আসল। এতে সমাজে একটা বেশ কলরব শুরু হয়েছিল। কিন্তু শ্বশুড় বাড়িতে জামাইর আদর যত্নে তা বেশি দিন টিকে থাকতে পারে নি। জামাই তাদের ভালবাসা, আদর-যত্নে তাদের পরিবারেরই একজনের মত আচরণ করতে লাগল। রাজিব, রজনির সাথে মাঝে মাঝে মাঠে গিয়েও কাজ করে। বেশ ভালই দিন কাটতে শুরু করল।
